This summer, Relias welcomed a cohort of curious, driven interns ready to dive into healthcare tech, and among them was Anushri Wachche (pictured right), a rising sophomore at UNC Chapel Hill. Through her product marketing internship at Relias, Anushri combined her interest in business and data science to make a real impact on customer advocacy strategy and explore a career path she hadn’t previously considered.
“I didn’t even know this kind of role existed before I applied,” she said, reflecting on her first exposure to product marketing. But in just a few short weeks, Anushri had already contributed to one of the team’s most important initiatives: improving our customer advocacy strategy.
Driving impact through curiosity and collaboration
Anushri’s main project focused on building a dashboard to help identify top customer advocates. She explored tools like Pendo, Salesforce, and Gong to audit existing content and track advocate behavior, bringing her data-savvy mindset to every step of the process.
Her manager, Kristin Bushong, shared:
“Anushri has brought fresh thinking, a curiosity for learning, and a very driven attitude. She dove into every task with enthusiasm and often offered up ideas or approaches we hadn’t considered.”
Kristin noted that Anushri’s experience with generative AI and her openness to experimenting improved the team’s processes for running its customer advisory program— a lasting impact from a short summer.
Learning, confidence, and the real world of work
This was Anushri’s first in-person internship, and she admitted to feeling a bit intimidated at first. But what surprised her most was Relias’ workplace culture.
“I thought a corporate job would be super formal and serious, but people here are genuinely friendly and welcoming. Everyone’s open to casual conversation, even in meetings. It makes it easier to learn and feel like you’re part of a team.”
She was especially struck by how approachable colleagues were. “If I asked someone what they do, they’d stop everything and tell me. You can tell people here actually enjoy what they’re doing.”
A manager’s perspective: Creating meaningful internships
Kristin sees internships as more than just skill-building— they’re about clarity and confidence.
“While acquiring professional skills is important, I believe the greatest benefit our interns can receive is leaving Relias with a clearer sense of their professional aspirations. If they discover what they enjoyed, and what they didn’t, we’ve succeeded.”
Kristin designed the internship to be both structured and supportive, offering weekly check-ins, mentorship, and cross-department exposure. When Anushri showed interest in Product Management, Kristin arranged meetings with two directors to help her explore that path further.
“We set out with a clear path for success and used regular check-ins to problem-solve, give advice, and open doors for learning. I want interns to leave with experience, perspective, and real connections.”
What’s next for Anushri
Although she’s still early in her college journey, Anushri now has a clearer direction: she’s interested in client-facing roles, potentially product management, and wants to continue exploring the intersection of marketing and analytics.
And when asked to sum up her internship in one word?
“Dynamic.”
From learning new tools to navigating corporate culture, she embraced every opportunity to grow and made a lasting impression.
