Meet the Relias HR Operations Team: The Heartbeat of our Headquarters

Our Relias HR Operations team is the heartbeat of Relias HQ. They execute employee events, plan emergency response operations, coordinate Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) efforts, and more! This team, led by Jenny Calloway, Director of HR Operations, is often the first smiling face you see at the front desk. They are integral to our day-to-day operations at Relias HQ and our vibrant company culture.

We interviewed team members Caleb Brittain, Erin Tobin, and Michele Gardner to learn more about their lives and roles.

Backgrounds and beginnings

Caleb Brittain graduated from NC State with a background in business and HR, particularly healthcare recruitment. He joined Relias to be closer to home and was drawn by the company’s mission and community-focused culture.

Michele Gardner has a rich background in elementary education and executive assistance and joined Relias in November 2022. Her extensive experience in event planning has been pivotal in orchestrating Relias’ festive and memorable gatherings.

Erin Tobin brought her public health expertise from Appalachian State University and previous roles in elder care to Relias in 2023. She is inspired by Relias’ commitment to improving healthcare outcomes.

A day in the life

No two days are the same for the Relias HR Operations team. They are responsible for everything from event planning to solving the occasional gnat problem. Their responsibilities also include office improvements and community outreach.

“People don’t realize we’re also responsible for security and even handling squeaky conference room doors!” Caleb said with laughter.

They’re also excited about the new content studio and upcoming ceiling renovations to the 321 Coffee café.

Personal passions and hobbies

When they’re not keeping Relias HQ up and running, all three have unique hobbies. Caleb collects fountain pens and unwinds with video games, while Michele, a cooking enthusiast, delights in preparing her signature shrimp linguini. Erin enjoys spending time with friends and traveling as much as possible when she’s not at work.

Fostering community and connection

Michele beautifully sums up the ethos of the Relias HR Operations team: “Everyone wants to feel important—they want to be greeted. It’s important to treat everyone well. People really respond to that.”

This philosophy underscores the team’s approach to every interaction at Relias. The team ensures everyone feels valued, whether it’s a warm welcome at the front desk or a casual chat during a catered lunch. Their efforts create an environment where employees are more than just colleagues; they’re a community united by shared experiences and mutual respect.

Final thoughts

“Our strength is teamwork. We communicate effectively, delegate tasks efficiently, and always find someone to lend a hand when needed,” Michele said.

It’s clear that the Relias HR Operations team does much more than manage day-to-day logisticsthey foster a culture of care, engagement, and community. Next time you pass by the front desk or attend a Good Grub Social Club lunch, remember the planning and heartfelt dedication that Caleb, Erin, Michele, and Jenny put into making Relias a great place to work
