Improving Quality and Patient Safety for Mothers and Babies With Relias OB
Clinica Sierra Vista is one of the largest FQHCs in the nation serving the medical, dental and behavioral health needs of about 200,000 souls in three counties across central California. Their client population includes migrant farm workers, immigrants, the inner city and those living in rural and isolated settings. They are recognized as a social justice organization, advocating tirelessly on behalf of patients in a range of areas, not just healthcare.
As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), Clinica Sierra Vista is required to complete risk management training in high-risk areas, such as obstetrics. With over 4,000 prenatal patients in 2017, providers at Clinica Sierra Vista are busy—and with new sites planned, time spent on training must be meaningful and efficient.
While Clinica Sierra Vista has access to free resources through the federal government, they were neither adaptive nor engaging. CEO, Brian Harris, recognized an opportunity to improve maternal and fetal outcomes through improved training and saw Relias OB as a great match.
“Relias OB offers a better way of online, adaptive adult learning than anything I’ve seen for the OB side. Saving one life or avoiding one bad outcome makes the investment worth it.”
After implementing Relias OB, Clinica Sierra Vista achieved 100% compliance with FTCA requirements for training. Relias was able to implement the solution in less than a month, allowing Clinica Sierra Vista’s providers and staff in hospitals to take advantage of the meaningful training right away.
“I was trying to find something that was going to value our doctors’ intelligence and their very precious time.”
—Brian Harris, CEO
According to the staff, Relias OB improves their knowledge base and comfort level, and increases their awareness of risk factors for dealing with obstetrical patients.
By providing an adaptive solution that assesses gaps and targets learning where it’s needed, Relias is helping Clinica Sierra Vista deliver better outcomes for mothers and babies in central California.
