An effective nurse onboarding and orientation process is critical to higher levels of nurse engagement and nurse satisfaction. As new nurses enter the field, many are anxious to begin applying the knowledge and skills they learned academically. However, ensuring they are adequately prepared for the realities of the job leaves an opportunity for organizations to positively influence levels of engagement and retention beyond their first year. Recently published in the Journal for Nurses in Professional Development, Onboarding New Graduate Nurses Using Assessment-Driven Personalized Learning to Improve Knowledge, Critical Thinking, and Nurse Satisfaction, a healthcare organization aimed to demonstrate how an evidence-based onboarding program can provide the most support possible to new graduate nurses as they transition from the classroom to practice.
