ABOUT THIS COURSE:
SUMMARY Discusses the impact of communication and interactions with patient satisfaction scores, differences between the science and art of nursing care, the importance of patient empowerment in the perception of quality nursing care, and the patients perspective of what constitutes quality nursing care.As part of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), Congress authorized the inpatient Hospital Value-Based Purchasing Program (HVBP). HVBP is part of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) effort to adjust Medicares payment system based on the quality of care provided in the inpatient hospital setting. The HVBP program rewards acute care hospitals with incentive payments for the quality of care they give to patients, not just the quantity of services that are provided. The purpose of the HVBP program is to promote better clinical outcomes for hospitalized patients, as well as improve the patient experience during their hospitalization. One of the quality domains added in 2017 is the Patient and Caregiver Centered Experience of Care/Care Coordination. This domain measures the patient experience related to communication with nurses and doctors, responsiveness of hospital staff, pain management, communication about medicines, cleanliness and quietness of hospital environment, discharge information, and the overall rating of the hospital. By educating nurses and other healthcare providers regarding best practices in encouraging patient satisfaction and improving the patient experience, better outcomes within the healthcare system can be achieved.LEARNING OUTCOMES: After completing this activity, registered nurses will be able to apply to their practice the components of the BE NICE philosophy of professionalism.
